Although this set appears very accessible with its many attractive color photographs, it is probably most useful for those with some knowledge of the taxonomy and structure of conifers--gardeners, landscape designers, and nursery professionals. The first volume begins with a short description of each of 65 genera belonging to the Ginkgophyta, Coniferophyta, and Gnetophyta. The rest of the set consists of photographs of individual species--with a one or two sentence caption--arranged by scientific name.
